'Winter Cleaning' donation drive

Lunar New Year 2022

'Winter Cleaning' donation drive

2022 is the Year of the Tiger, starting Feb. 1 and ending Jan. 21, 2023. The tiger is known as the king of all beasts in China. The tiger zodiac sign is a symbol of strength, exorcising evils and braveness. Many Chinese children wear hats or shoes with a tiger image for good luck (source). Learn more about the legend of the Tiger.

The Little Year (小年 / xiǎo nián) marks the beginning of the preparation for the Lunar New Year. From this day, people begin to prepare goods, clean house, pray to the stove god, etc. People carry out a "winter cleaning" of their houses to "sweep away the dust," which represents a wish to put away old things, bid farewell to the old year and welcome in the New Year.

Start off the year with your very own winter cleaning and take any items you would like to give away to Jack's Corner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 26. Embrace a new year and new you! The Center for Global Engagement will distribute the donations to a local charity.
