Gilbert Sports & Fitness Center Dedication

Gilbert Sports & Fitness Center Dedication

California Lutheran University invites the community to share in the formal dedication of the long-awaited Gilbert Sports and Fitness Center, named in honor of benefactors Carol and Jack Gilbert.

Cheryl Miller, former USC four-time All-American and Olympic Gold Medal winning basketball star, will serve as keynote speaker for the dedication at 11 a.m. in Gilbert Arena.

A former head coach and general manager of the WNBA Phoenix Mercury, Miller is an inductee into the Basketball Hall of Fame. She is currently a studio host, reporter and analyst for TNT and TBS. Though she is very supportive of athletics, she is also an advocate for literacy and pediatric AIDS awareness. Her brother Reggie Miller is a former UCLA and NBA Indiana Pacers star.

With award-winning sportscaster and news anchor Ed Arnold as Master of Ceremonies, the dedication will include entertainment and brief remarks from regional dignitaries. Members of the community are invited to attend and to stay for lunch.

The 96,000-square-foot state-of-the-art center, which opened its doors in July, houses two major gymnasiums (the 1,500-seat Gilbert Arena and Soiland Recreation Center), the Lundring Events Center, Forrest Fitness Center, Exercise Science and Sports Medicine classrooms and laboratories, a dance studio, the Ventura County Sports Hall of Fame, the CLU Alumni Association Athletic Hall of Fame, and offices for faculty, staff and coaches.

Admission is free.
