ALCF Annual Conference

Note: Randall Balmer's lecture will be held in the Nelson Room.

The Association of Lutheran College Faculties will hold its annual conference on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 6 and 7, on the CLU campus.

The conference will begin with registration, an opening banquet, and the keynote address Friday evening, and continue with a full day of talks and sessions on Saturday, ending with dinner and entertainment Saturday night.

Friday evening's keynote speaker is Randall Balmer, professor of American religious history at Barnard College, Columbia University. He will speak at 7:30 p.m. in the Nelson Room. Admission to the keynote address is free and the public is invited.

Dr. Balmer, who will speak on "Sojourners in a Pluralistic Land: The Promise and Peril of Christian Higher Education," lectures frequently to audiences throughout the country and, under the auspices of the State Department, around the world. He is the author of 10 books, most recently Thy Kingdom Come: How the Religious Right Distorts the Faith and Threatens America: An Evangelical's Lament. His second book, Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory: A Journey into the Evangelical Subculture in America, was made into an award-winning three-part documentary for PBS.

On Sunday we will offer an optional worship service, and you may wish to visit our beaches or take advantage of Southern California's many cultural and recreational opportunities. A block of rooms will be reserved at a hotel convenient to our campus.

The ALCF is a free and independent scholarly association whose membership automatically includes anyone who teaches in a Lutheran college or university, or is a Lutheran teaching in any institution of higher education.
