The Center for Leadership and Values Lecture Series

The Center for Leadership and Values at California Lutheran University will host Steve Vernon, President of Rest-of-Life Communications, as part of the Distinguished Speakers Series. Vernon will discuss “How Much Money and Things Do We Need to Be Happy?” on Wednesday, Oct. 11, at 4 p.m. in Samuelson Chapel. Admission is free and open to the public.

A retired vice president and consulting actuary with Watson Wyatt Worldwide, Vernon is currently a member of the executive faculty with the California Institute for Finance at CLU. For more than 30 years, he helped Fortune 500 companies design, administer, communicate and fund their retirement, benefits and rewards programs. His clients included Agilent, Charles Schwab, Dole Food Company, Harrah’s, Home Savings of America, Hughes Electronics, Lockheed Martin, City of Los Angeles, Nordstrom, Northrop Grumman, RAND Corporation, Teledyne Technologies and Times Mirror. Vernon is also the co-author of three books, including Live Long & Prosper! Invest in Your Happiness, Health and Wealth for Retirement and Beyond.

The lecture is sponsored by the Center for Leadership and Values and the California Institute of Finance, both under the auspices of the School of Business. Housed within the CLU School of Business since 1999, the Center for Leadership and Values promotes discussions of issues related to values, character, leadership and social progress within the University and the larger community. Co-directed by Charles Maxey, Ph.D., a professor and Dean of the School of Business, and Jamshid Damooei, Ph.D., a professor of economics, the Center hosts a speaker series, serves as a clearinghouse and resource center for discussion materials, and conducts relevant research.
