Iran and the U.S.: Oil, Islam and Influence in Eurasia

Sarah Forth, Th.D.

Iran and the U.S.: Oil, Islam and Influence in Eurasia

For 18 days last fall, Sarah Forth toured Iran with a study group from the New College of California. Rather than "the axis of evil," she found generous and hospitable people proud of their 2,500 year history and worried about what the U.S. intends for them.

With a slide presentation, Sarah will discuss her experience traveling in the Islamic Republic, provide an overview of Persian history and Iranian-American relations, touch on the unique nature of Shi'a Islam, and offer perspectives on the current political situation.

Forth holds a doctorate in theology from Northwestern University and Garrett Seminary with a focus on women and religion. She has taught at Immaculate Heart College Center, UCLA, and for the Religion Department and ADEP at California Lutheran University. Eve's Bible, her guide to the Hebrew Bible for women is forthcoming from St. Martin's Press.
