CANCELED: Poet and Spoken Word Performance by Amal Kassir

CANCELED: Poet and Spoken Word Performance by Amal Kassir

This event has been canceled.

Two seemingly opposing worlds combined to grant a unique perspective to Amal Kassir, the daughter of a German/Iowan mother and a Syrian father. Born and raised in Denver, she spent years on her grandmother’s farm in Syria and enjoyed the sweetness of fresh parsley and ripe lemons. Kassir’s fiery spoken word poetry and storytelling are the result of her lived experience, now that one of the landscapes she knew well has been flattened and heaped with rubble from broken buildings. Sadness and frustration seep through every single word. The urgency to act now resounds in her voice. But she never walks away without giving you a sense of her name, Amal, which in Arabic means “hope.”
