This workshop encompasses the basics of understanding and generating news media coverage and working with media: understanding media, effectively pitching your organization, news release writing and distribution, writing feature pitches to tell your story in a compelling way, interview preparation and cultivating relationships with media. The program includes specific tips, tactics and strategies to get you started or enhance your existing media efforts.

Stephanie Dufner

With 20 years of experience in Communications and Marketing, Stephanie has expertise in internal and external communications, web writing, media relations, and social media. She currently freelances, creating content for California Lutheran University’s College of Arts and Sciences and Soroptimist International Sedro-Woolley (Wash.).

From 2017-2021, she worked with St. Petersburg, Fla.-based Madeira Public Relations, collaborating with local and national nonprofits, associations, and businesses increasing their digital, print, and broadcast presence. Prior to joining Madeira, she served as Communications Manager at the national office of The ALS Association, where she managed the association’s internal communications and social media accounts. She also coordinated interviews between senior staff and subject matter experts to promote the organization’s research, care services, and advocacy programs. In addition, Stephanie responded to hundreds of queries from news media and the general public during the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in 2014.

Stephanie holds a master’s degree in communication and leadership studies from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash. She lives in Thousand Oaks with her family and enjoys playing tennis, walking, and exploring local cuisine.
