Results: Word Recognition & Fluency
This CRLP Professional Learning Institute on the Common Core Foundational Skills focuses on “What” content students need to learn, “When” it needs to be covered within an overall scope and sequence, and “How” instruction might be approached within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). This training also emphasizes the “Why” behind the What, the When, and the How. CRLP is committed to teachers knowing the theory, research, and reasoning that informs their practice.

- Word recognition instruction at four levels
- Fluency instruction
- Sample lessons
Institute Outcomes:
- Understand the content of the four components of the Foundational Skills and their importance in learning to read and spell
- Know how to administer, interpret, and integrate assessments of letter name knowledge, phonological awareness, phonics, and high frequency irregular sight words
- Understand a sequence of learning to read and apply it to word recognition scope and sequences of instruction in state-adopted reading programs
- Enhance and differentiate word recognition/spelling strategy instruction by planning and preparing to teach MTSS lessons
