(THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – June 30, 2014) Ten California Lutheran University faculty members have been promoted in rank or awarded tenure.

Haco Hoang and Jose Marichal of the Political Science Department were advanced to the rank of full professor. Hoang, of Topanga, earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a doctorate in political science from Boston University. Marichal, of Thousand Oaks, earned a bachelor’s degree in communication and English from Florida State University, a master’s degree in political science from Florida Atlantic University and a doctorate in political science from the University of Colorado.

Veronica Guerrero, an assistant professor and former director of the Master of Business Administration program, and David Powell, a professor and the director of the Master of Public Policy and Administration program, were elected to tenure. Guerrero, of Newbury Park, has a bachelor’s degree in business administration and marketing from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, an MBA from San Jose State University and a doctorate in organizational leadership from Pepperdine University. Powell, of Saugus, has a bachelor’s degree in political science and history from Baldwin-Wallace College, a master’s in political science from Ohio University and a doctorate in political science from Miami University in Ohio.

Michael Gerson and Jodie Kocur of the Graduate School of Psychology, Maura Martindale of the Graduate School of Education, Bryan Rasmussen of the English Department and John Tannaci of the Chemistry Department were elected to tenure and advanced to the rank of associate professor. Gerson, of Westlake Village, holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from California State University, Northridge, a master’s in applied behavioral science from California State University, Dominguez Hills, and a doctorate in psychology and psychoanalysis from the California Graduate Institute. Kocur, of Moorpark, has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Pepperdine and a master’s and doctorate in psychology from Colorado State University. Martindale, of Thousand Oaks, has a bachelor’s degree in history and elementary education from Annhurst College, a master’s in education of the deaf from Smith College and a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Southern California. Rasmussen, of Camarillo, earned a bachelor’s degree in English and philosophy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a master’s and doctorate in English and Victorian studies from Indiana University, Bloomington. Tannaci, of Thousand Oaks, holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Stanford University and doctorate in chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley.

Michael Gagliardo of the Mathematics Department was advanced to the rank of associate professor. The Ventura resident has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Southwestern University and a master’s and doctorate in mathematics from the University of Texas at Austin.
