PASADENA, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran men’s track & field team had ten of its student-athletes honored by the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) for their efforts in the classroom on Thursday. Garrett Baker, Michael Bassette, Ian Broderick, Conor Finfrock, Erik Fruth, Matthew Garvin, Shawn Jackson, Dan Miller, Andrew Olson and William Zimmerle were all named to the SCIAC Men’s Track & Field All-Academic team.
In order to be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.40 cumulative grade point average at his or her current institution, must have completed one full calendar year at that institution and must have reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
Baker, a junior distance runner, is majoring in Criminal Justice while his teammate and reigning 2014 SCIAC Shot Put champion Bassette is pursuing a degree in Exercise Science.
Joining his teammates on the list is Broderick, a sophomore distance runner who is majoring in Computer Science. Along with Broderick, Finfrock, an All-SCIAC performer in 2014, is a junior pursing a degree in History.
Continuing with the honored Kingsmen is Fruth, a four-time All-SCIAC performer who graduated in May with a degree in both Global Studies and German. Another All-SCIAC performer on the team was Garvin, a junior distance runner who is majoring in Communications. Rounding out the distance runners was Jackson who recently graduated with a degree in Mathematics.
In his final season, Miller earned All-SCIAC honors as a part of CLU's 4x 400m relay team. In the classroom, Miller finished a degree in Business. Olson, an All-SCIAC sprinter, also earned a spot on the list after graduating in May with a degree in English. Lastly, Zimmerle, a thrower, landed on the All-Academic team while majoring in Geology.
