German artist's watercolors to be shown
Cal Lutheran exhibit to run Feb. 3 through April 6

(THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Jan. 17, 2017) Dream-like watercolor paintings by a German artist will be on display in the William Rolland Gallery of Fine Art at California Lutheran University.
“five leaves left” by Christof Mascher will be exhibited from Friday, Feb. 3, through Thursday, April 6, in the alcove of the gallery on the Thousand Oaks campus.
The 12 recent watercolor works on paper are saturated in brilliant colors and vivid scenes.
“I am inspired by imagery of my youth, be it children’s book illustrations, Scandinavian landscapes, imagery of video games from the early ’90s, movie stills,” Mascher said.
Growing up in a newly unified Germany, Mascher was influenced by graffiti and hip-hop and attended art school. His dreamy, figurative works contain a combination of pop culture and architectural and historical references. The subjects vary widely, from utopian landscapes to deserted houses, with an occasional dinosaur showing up.
Many of the works in the exhibit traveled through London, Cologne and Chicago before coming to Ventura County. Mascher also has been the subject of solo exhibitions in galleries in Brussels, Berlin, Amsterdam, Zurich and Rotterdam, as well as at the Mönchehaus Museum and Kunsthalle Emden museum in Germany. He is represented by Josh Lilley Gallery in London, Galerie Michael Janssen in Berlin, Galerie Philipp von Rosen in Cologne and Hopstreet Gallery in Brussels.

The gallery is in William Rolland Stadium, which is located north of Olsen Road near Mountclef Boulevard. It is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
