(THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - April 17) Cal Lutheran Athletics Director Dan Kuntz announced the addition of women's lacrosse as the program's 22nd varsity sport with the inaugural season set for spring of 2020.

"Ventura County has a tremendous talent pool of lacrosse athletes and the sport is growing quickly in the area. We look forward to welcoming many of the top women's lacrosse student-athletes to the Cal Lutheran community to compete as Regals," said Kuntz.

Cal Lutheran will be the seventh university in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletics Conference to have a women's lacrosse team. The Regals join Claremont-Mudd-Scrips, Chapman, Occidental, Redlands, Pomona-Pitzer and Whittier.

The extension to seven SCIAC lacrosse teams will allow the conference to send their tournament champion as an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Championships.
