REDLANDS, Calif.  – Tonight Cal Lutheran men’s soccer met Redlands on the field for the first time. While the Bulldogs defeated the Kingsmen 4-2, CLU will have an opportunity at revenge in five days when the teams meet again.

UR opened an early 1-0 lead when Matej Kustura scored in the 15th minute and the Bulldogs added a second in the 28th minute when Charles Izydorek found the back of the net for a 2-0 lead.

Cal Lutheran failed to find a rhythm early and the Bulldogs controlled the ball. At the intermission, UR had a 15-7 advantage in shots taken.

After halftime Kustura added to the Bulldogs lead before the Kingsmen struck in the 73rd minute. David Lee scored on a penalty kick after a Redlands player was issued a yellow card.

Unfortunately, less than a minute and a half later UR reciprocated with a header off a cross to bump their lead back to three goals at 4-1.

The Kingsmen never stopped playing and Nathan Davidson connected from 25 yards out to cut the Cal Lutheran deficit in half in the 83rd minute.

CLU used a trio of goalies with Rey Rivera-Ramos playing the first half, recording six saves before Jack Duncan took over to tally five. Miguel Silva played the final 11 minutes, making one stop.

Overall UR racked up 31 shots while CLU fired off 16. Raul Yepez took a team high five with Tyler Pascoe shooting three times and Kyle Fleming taking two.

The Bulldogs earned 11 corner kicks while CLU was awarded just one, coming in the first half.

Cal Lutheran (6-8, 4-6 SCIAC) rounds out its most recent road trip on Saturday, Oct. 12 when they travel to Caltech to play the Beavers at 4:00 p.m.

Box Score: UR 4, CLU 2
