LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Announced today, senior Regals basketball player Starla Wright was named the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Female Athlete of the Week for her performance between Dec. 17 and Jan 1, 2013.

Wright led Cal Lutheran to a 2-0 performance at the 2012 Posada Royale Winter Classic, being named the tournament Most Outstanding Player as she averaged 17.5 points per game. The Los Angeles, Calif. native was the lone Regals player in double-figures as Cal Lutheran overcame a 17-point second half deficit to defeat Scranton 44-42 on day one of the tournament. She finished with a 14-point, 13-rebounds double-double and was responsible for the game-winning basket.

On Monday, she came back to again prove her versatility in a 66-58 victory over UC Santa Cruz. She led all players with 21 points while also recording six steals from the Banana Slugs. She went on a solo 6-0 run with seven minutes remaining in the first half to give CLU a 25-23 advantage they would not relinquish for the remainder of regulation.

Overall in 2012 Wright is averaging better than 16 points and nine rebounds per game for the Regals.

Cal Lutheran (10-2) will face off with UCSC once more, Jan. 27, in the final non-conference match-up of the winter. CLU returns to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday, Jan. 5 when they host the league co-leading Tigers from Occidental (7-3, 3-0 SCIAC) at 5:00 p.m. in the Gilbert Arena.

Wright becomes the third Cal Lutheran student-athlete honored by the SCIAC this academic year, joining Kylie McLogan (Aug. 31-Sept.9) and Zach Shultis (Oct. 15-21).
