REDLANDS, Calif. – All streaks must come to an end. That is exactly what happened Thursday night as the Redlands Bulldogs upset Cal Lutheran 61-53 at Currier Gym, snapping an eight game winning streak for the Regals.

Cold shooting plagued the Regals all night as CLU was just 18-55 (32%) from the field, including 3-17 from behind the arc.

Cal Lutheran trailed from the get-go as Redlands went up 11-5 through the first four minutes of the game. The Regals would get back within four points at 13-9 when Starla Wright hit a lay-up with 14:42 left to play in the first half.

But that is as close as CLU would get as Redlands held the Regals to just one basket in the final eight minutes of the half while extending their lead to 42-25 at the break.

However, Cal Lutheran would not go down without a fight in the second half. After missing their four shots to begin the half, Jazmyne Porter scored five points and Keeley Anderson connected on a three-pointer to cut the Redlands lead to eight at 51-43.

Unfortunately, another cold streak on the offensive end would spell the demise for CLU as they connected on just one of 14 shots in the final five minutes. The Bulldogs relied on six points from Brittany Oster in that same stretch and allowed Redlands to run out the clock and seal the upset.

Cal Lutheran was led offensively by Porter who scored 10 points. Wright finished with nine points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Erica Whitley added seven points and three steals.

Redlands was led by Oster’s 20 points and 11 rebounds. Marika Stanton was second on the team with 14 points.

With the loss, Cal Lutheran drops to 15-3 overall and 8-2 in the SCIAC. Redlands improves to 12-5 overall and 5-3 in the SCIAC. The Regals continued their road trip this Saturday, Jan. 26, when they travel to take on Caltech at 5:00 p.m. before returning home Sunday to take on non-conference foe, UC Santa Cruz, with tip off set for 4:00 p.m.
