THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran women’s tennis team officially released their 2013 spring schedule Friday. The slate features matches with seven opponents ranked in the 2013 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Preseason Top 30 poll.
The Regals get the season underway Feb. 1 with a trip to Santa Barbara, Calif. where they take on NAIA power Westmont at 2:00 p.m.
Cal Lutheran then begins a four-match home stand at the Paulson Tennis Center with their home opener coming against Ventura College on Thursday, Feb. 7, at 2:00 p.m.
Friday, Feb. 8, the Regals host Hope International and kick off Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play against preseason No. 24 Redlands on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 11:00 a.m. at home. Rounding out the home stand, CLU will face NAIA Biola in a non-conference contest on Feb. 15. Both HIU and Biola matches will begin at 2:00 p.m.
CLU will then hit the road for their first away conference match of the year as they take on preseason No. 23 Chapman on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 11:00 a.m. Cal Lutheran nearly knocked off the then No. 18 Panthers a year ago, falling 5-4.
The Regals will host Caltech the Friday, March 1 at 2:00 p.m. before traveling to Claremont, Calif. when they square off against preseason No. 12 Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
Cal Lutheran then takes a break from SCIAC play as they begin a stretch of nine straight non-conference matches. The Regals will be at home for the first seven, beginning with Sewanee (Tenn.) on March 8 and Kenyon (Ohio) on March 9. CLU will host Principia (Ill.) on March 14 at 3:00 p.m. with a doubleheader against the University of Rochester and Case Western Reserve on Friday, March 15 at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., respectively. They turn around to face UT-Dallas (Tex.) on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. The home stand closes out with preseason No. 15 Trinity (Tex.) Thursday, March 21 at 3:00 p.m.
The Regals will spend Spring Break on the road as they travel to Oregon for a quick two-match road trip. Saturday, March 23, the Regals take on Linfield at 1:00 p.m. CLU will play Lewis & Clark on Sunday before returning home to close out SCIAC head-to-head play.
Friday, April 5, Cal Lutheran travels to Claremont, Calif. to take on preseason No. 8 and two-time defending SCIAC Champion Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
After the match with CMS, CLU closes out the conference head-to-head matches with Whittier (April 6), Occidental (April 12) and La Verne (April 13).
Two weeks later, CLU will travel north to the Ojai Tournament for a four-day tournament starting on April 25.
The Regals conclude their regular season with the SCIAC Championships May 3-4 hosted by La Verne. Cal Lutheran will be looking to break into the top three of the conference after finishing fourth each of the past three seasons.
The 2013 NCAA III Women’s Tennis Championships are set for May 20-25 in Kalamazoo, Mich.
