LOS ANGELES Calif. Though four players scored multiple goals, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opener did not go as the No. 3 Cal Lutheran women’s water polo team had hoped as the Regals fell 15-12 on the road at No. 5 Occidental today.

Oxy took a 5-3 first quarter lead and pushed the gap to 9-6 at the intermission. It proved to be too much of a deficit for the Violet and Gold to dig out of, though they made a late push.

Trailing by six, 14-8, with 6:42 to play in the final quarter, CLU netted four goals in four minutes to get within a pair. Shannon Streeter scored two of her three goals with under 6:30 in the fourth frame.

Unfortunately, the Oxy defense held the Regals off the board after that, adding an insurance goal of their own at the 2:32 mark.

Both Streeterand Jordan Card recorded hat-tricks while Jane Galluzzi and Adrienne Ingalla scored a pair apiece. Morgan McCardell and Kaylee Kastrup rounded out the scoring for the Regals today. McCardell was responsible for four assists as well.

Galluzzi added four drawn ejections, three assists and a game-high half a dozen steals to her tally today. The trio of Kastrup, Kehau Ai and Amanda Jones each came away with two steals.

In front of the cage, Kylee Tomasetti blocked 10 shots for CLU tonight in a tough half deep, half shallow Taylor Pool.

Cal Lutheran (6-12, 0-1 SCIAC) has a bye on Saturday and will host their league home opener on Wednesday, March 27 at 5:00 p.m. in the Samuelson Aquatics Center.
