CLU faculty promotions announced

(THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – April 2, 2013) The Board of Regents of California Lutheran University has approved several promotions in rank and tenure and granted emeritus status to a retiring professor.

Deborah Erickson of the Graduate School of Education, Marylie Gerson of the Psychology Department, Grady Hanrahan of the Chemistry Department, Mark Spraggins of the Music Department and Russell Stockard of the Communication Department will advance to the rank of full professor.

Erickson, of Thousand Oaks, earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in social sciences from Pacific Lutheran University, a master’s degree in educational administration from California State University, San Bernardino, and a doctorate in educational leadership from University of the Pacific. Gerson, of Westlake Village, earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the College of William and Mary and a master’s degree in psychology and doctorate in social psychology from Princeton University. Hanrahan, of Chatsworth, has a bachelor’s degree in life sciences from Indiana State University, a master’s degree in environmental chemistry from Southern Illinois University and a doctorate in environmental analytical chemistry from the University of Plymouth. Spraggins, of Camarillo, received a bachelor’s degree in jazz studies and composition from Auburn University, a master’s degree in composition from Butler University and a Doctor of Musical Arts in composition from the University of Southern California. Stockard, of Oak Park, earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Harvard College, a master’s degree in romance languages and literatures from Harvard University, a Master of Business Administration in marketing from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a doctorate in communication from Stanford University.

Schannae Lucas of the Criminal Justice Department was elected to tenure and advanced to the rank of associate professor. The Moorpark resident has a bachelor’s degree in social science from the University of California, Irvine, and a master’s degree and doctorate in criminal justice from Washington State University.

Mindy Puopolo, director of the doctoral program in the Graduate School of Psychology, was advanced to the rank of associate professor. The Oak Park resident received a bachelor’s degree in English education from Plymouth State College, a master’s in counseling and rehabilitative services from Notre Dame College and a doctorate in clinical psychology from Pepperdine University.

The promotions will take effect Sept. 1.

The regents also approved the status of emerita faculty member for Barbara Collins of Thousand Oaks after she retires in May. This year marked her 50th year teaching biology at the Thousand Oaks university. She earned a bachelor’s degree in geology from Bates College, a master’s degree in geology from Smith College and a doctorate in geology from the University of Illinois.
