Regals Round Out Regular Season with Rout

LA VERNE, Calif. The Cal Lutheran women’s water polo team will be one of the hottest teams headed into the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) tournament this weekend after defeating La Verne 13-2 Wednesday evening. The win marked the third a row for the Regals, their longest streak of the season.

After scoring a goal in the first quarter and three in the second, Cal Lutheran exploded for seven goals in the third quarter and extended its lead to 11-1. The Regals would tack on two more goals in the final period while La Verne got its second goal of the game to close out the scoring.

Goalkeeper Kylee Tomasetti was the story of the game as the senior had a career-high seven steals to go along with four blocks despite only playing in three quarters. Gina Merry came on in the fourth quarter, registering four blocks and securing the win for the Regals.

Cal Lutheran had a balanced offensive attack with eight different players scoring. Jordan Card led the way with three goals while Adrienne Ingalla and Julia Samarin both netted two. Kehau Ai, Kaylee Kastrup, Morgan McCardell, Shannon Streeter and Skylar Vasquez also joined in the scoring, all notching a goal.

Amanda Jones chipped in with three assists.

Defensively, the Regals were led by Ingalla’s six steals while McCardell had three and Jane Galuzzi had two field blocks.

Though the Regals concluded their first round of play on Wednesday, a number of teams will be in action on Saturday. Following the completion of competition the seedings will be set.  

Cal Lutheran (11-14, 5-3 SCIAC) is guaranteed to be back in the pool on Friday, April 26 for the first day of the 2013 SCIAC Women’s Water Polo Championships at Pasadena City College. Time and opponent are yet to be determined and will be available at as soon as possible.
