CLU finishes fourth

PASADENA, Calif. Announced last week by the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) a trio of Cal Lutheran women’s water polo players earned All-SCIAC recognition following the conclusion of the 2013 season.

Among the best league players this season was a pair of seniors and a sophomore. Morgan McCardell becomes a First Team All-SCIAC selection during her second and final season of collegiate water polo for CLU. Senior Jane Galluzzi caps her career with a Second Team nod and sophomore Adrienne Ingalla was named as an Honorable Mention.

During the SCIAC portion of the season McCardell led the Regals with 18 goals and was tied for second on the team with 12 assists. She also came up with 14 steals, nine drawn ejections and a pair of field blocks.

Galluzzi was one of the biggest dual-threat athletes in the pool during every league game this year. She was second on the team with 23 steals, 12 drawn ejections and four field blocks, tied for second with 12 assists and tied for third with 15 goals. She finished her career fifth all-time at CLU with 145 steals, eighth in scoring with 105 goals and tied for ninth with 56 assists.

Leading the way defensively for the Violet and Gold was Ingalla who came up with a team-leading 25 steals and five field blocks in SCIAC play. She chipped in with 15 goals, which tied her for third most on the team, and tallied six assists with eight drawn ejections. Ingalla broke into the top-10 for a season with 69 total steals in 2013.

Cal Lutheran finished the year with a 13-15 overall record and a 7-4 SCIAC mark.
