Regals Honored for Academics

NEW ORLEANS, La. – After earning numerous accolades on the track in 2013, the Cal Lutheran women’s track & field team was honored for its efforts in the classroom by being named an All-Academic Team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) earlier this month. Cal Lutheran was one of six Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) schools honored as the Regals compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.27 during the 2013 season.   

In addition to the team honor, Allie Hadley, Amanda Hamilton, Lauren Rohach and Kendall Sauter were honored by the USTFCCCA for their individual performances in the classroom.

In her first season competing for Cal Lutheran, Hadley, an exercise science major, made quite an impact as she captured the SCIAC title in the javelin and qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The freshman from Bothell, Wash. recorded a throw of 45.54 meters during the season which was just two meters behind former national champion Britlyn Garrett’s school record. Hadley rounded out her debut season with a seventh place finish at the NCAA Championships while garnering All-America honors.  

Much like Hadley, Hamilton, an exercise science major, had an equally impressive freshman season for the Regals. In her first collegiate meet she broke the school record for triple jump and would later improve her record to 11.86 meters. Hamilton would go on to win the same event at the SCIAC Championships and finish ninth at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships while earning All-America honors. The Simi Valley, Calif. native also finished fourth in the 400m hurdles and was a part of the school-record holding and SCIAC champion 4x 100m relay team.

Rohach, a biology major, is quickly becoming one of the most decorated athletes in Regals Track & Field history. The junior owns the school record for the long jump as well as being a member of the school-record holding 4x 100m relay team. She also has her name in the school's top ten of six other events. In 2013, the Moorpark, Calif. native finished 14th in the long jump at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships after coming in fourth at the SCIAC Championships. Rohach ran the second leg of the 4x 100m relay race at the SCIAC Championships were the Regals took first place. As individual, Rohach also finished second in the 200m and 400m dashes.

Rohach’s running mate on the 4x 100m relay team and fellow long jumper, Sauter, an exercise science major, enjoyed a breakout season where she finished 11th in the long jump at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She also ran the opening leg of the 4x 100m relay race for the Regals at the NCAA Championships. During the SCIAC Championships, Sauter finished second in the long jump, fifth in the 100m dash and helped capture the 4x 100m relay title.

In all, 363 student-athletes from Division III schools across the country were honored. UW-Oshkosh and Wartburg were honored as the Scholar Teams of the Year while Christy Cazzola of UW-Oshkosh and Michelle Favre of Ramapo were both named as the Track & Field Scholar Athletes of the Year in Division III.
