  • Seeking Faculty Mentors for McNair Scholars:  Cal Lutheran was recently awarded a $1.16 million, five-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education to administer the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program. The goal of the McNair program is to engage first-generation and low-income or traditionally underrepresented students in research and scholarly activities, preparing them for immediate entry into graduate school in pursuit of doctoral degree attainment. The program seeks full-time faculty members to serve as mentors for McNair Scholars.   • Don’t Cancel That Class – The Division of Student Affairs is pleased to offer Don’t Cancel That Class to faculty members who may be away for conference travel, meetings, etc.  You may request a Student Affairs staff member to present on a particular topic (e.g., job interview skills, dealing with test anxiety, financial literacy, etc.) or welcome them to present on the topic of their choice.  To make arrangements for an upcoming class, please contact Senior Coordinator for Residence Life and Student Conduct, Caitlin Hodges at hodges@callutheran.edu.
     
  • Community Leaders Association (CLA) Grant Proposals for Spring '18 awards due Wed., Nov. 1. The CLA has funds available to support faculty in engaging within the community. Appropriate proposals include cultural events, seminars, outreach efforts, and community-based research. Click here to view a rubric that clarifies selection criteria for this competitive application. Funding is generally provided up to $2,500; to be expended by the following fiscal year end. The proposal request form can be found on the Academic Affairs Grant Funding website under Community Leaders Association Grants.   • Please share with your students who are interested in pursuing undergraduate research! The Study Abroad Center, OURCS, and Experiential Learning have teamed up to provide a "STEM Research Abroad Fellowship" for two students in the 2018 summer term. This fellowship will provide funding for the students to conduct lab research at an overseas university, through our partner program, Arcadia. The application deadline is Nov. 15.
