- Institutional UAS (Drone) Operation: Students, faculty, staff, visitors and outside entities are not permitted to operate unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) on any California Lutheran University property for recreational use at this time. This is due to both Federal Aviation Association (FAA) requirements and risk management/liability issues.Exceptions may be made for official institutional or research/teaching use. Those instances will be managed through Campus Safety by submitting a UAS application for use. Click here for the UAS application. At this time, FAA regulations prohibit the use of commercial UAS for capturing aerial photographs and video for marketing purposes without an FAA Certificate of Operation.
