  • Spring 2019 Overload/Adjunct Faculty Contracts were generated on the first day of class (1/23/19) and will be electronically distributed to the recipient's Cal Lutheran email address this week.   • CEJ, Campus Diversity Initiative and CoAS present: A Conversation with Melina Abdullah,Tues., Feb. 5, 4:30pm, Samuelson Chapel. Melina Abdullah, one of the founders of Black Lives Matter, is professor and chair of Pan-African Studies at California State University, Los Angeles. Admission is free.
     
  • "Thousand Oaks Reads" Book PanelTues., Feb. 5, 7-8:30pm, Lundring Events Center. Panelists including President Chris Kimball (History) and Mary Oksala (Physics) will discuss Rocket Men: The Daring Odyssey of Apollo 8 and the Astronauts Who Made Man's First Journey to the Moon, by Robert Kurson. Admission is free.

  • Poetry Book Release Party: Adorable Airport by Jacqueline Lyons (English), Thurs., Feb. 7, 4pm, William Rolland Gallery of Fine Art. Admission is free. Books will be available for purchase.
     
  • Ventura County Sheriff Active Shooter Response Training – Fri., Feb. 8, 12:30 pm, Gilbert Arena. Representatives of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department will conduct a training session for all interested faculty and staff members. The training will consist of video and dialogue, and is part of a countywide initiative to train local businesses and schools in emergency-response preparedness.
     
  • Cal Lutheran Campus Safety Classroom Active Shooter/Violent Incident Response Training – Fri., Feb. 8, 1:30-2:30pm and 2:30-3:30pm, Hum 116.  Representatives of the Cal Lutheran Campus Safety Department will conduct classroom training sessions for faculty and staff. The training will consist of a video presentation and open dialogue regarding the best practices for staying safe in the classroom, Campus Safety’s role in emergency response and Cal Lutheran emergency communication.  The trainers have been formally trained at the ALICE(Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) Training Institute.   ALICE Training provides preparation and a plan for individuals and organizations on how to more proactively handle the threat of an aggressive intruder or active shooter event. (Note, you will only need to attend one of the classroom training timeslots, as the same material will covered in both sessions.) Please RSVP here to attend one of the sessions.

  • SABBATICAL DEADLINE – Fri., Feb. 15 is the deadline to submit your Request for Sabbatical Leave for the 2020-21 Academic Year. In order to be eligible for a sabbatical, faculty members must have completed six academic years of continuous service as a full-time member of the faculty, or have completed six years of continuous full-time service since May of their last sabbatical year. Access the new “Request for Sabbatical Leave” eForm: Sabbatical Request eForm for 2020-2021  Click here to access instructions for the eForm. These links can also be found on the Academic Affairs website under Faculty Resources and Forms. You will receive a confirmation email that your request has been submitted. If you do not receive this, you must contact Academic Affairs before the deadline as your request has NOT been received.   • Note to All Full-Time Faculty:  According to the faculty handbook, it is your responsibility to initiate application for promotion as you are eligible. If you are eligible and would like to apply for promotion next year you need to complete the Declaration and Peer Evaluator Form by Fri., Feb. 15. It can be found online Here (you will need to log in with your CLU username and password first – the form begins by entering your Chair and Dean information). You will receive a confirmation email once it has been submitted. If you have any questions, contact Karissa Oien atkoien@callutheran.edu.
     
  • Senior Adjunct Status and Application Process: If you are eligible and would like to apply for promotion to Senior Adjunct effective Fall 2019, please complete the application in the link by Fri., Feb. 15Declaration and Self-Assessment for Promotion to Senior AdjunctEligibility: Have taught at least one course each year for 6 years within a 10 year timeframe. Your department chair or program director will need to observe you in the classroom, so please be aware that will happen this semester. Department chairs will submit their recommendation by Apr. 15 which will be reviewed and approved by the Dean and Provost. You will be notified of the decision in July.   • Alumni & Family Relations is currently accepting Student Ambassador applicationsfor the 2019-2020 academic year! Student Ambassadors work directly with the office of Alumni and Family Relations to positively represent the student body to alumni, donors and other VIPs of the university at special events on and off campus.   • Fall 2018 course evaluations: To access your reports, begin by logging into the system at http://courseval.callutheran.edu with your Cal Lutheran username and password.  When you login you will see a message that says, “There are no recent reports available to you.”  This message is showing because all of the course evaluations have closed.  There are two ways you can access your report.  Either click on the link that says, “Click here to view past reports” or hover over the Reports tab and choose Evaluation reports.  Once in the Evaluation Reports screen, please make sure the Year drop-down is set to 2018 and the Period drop-down is set to the correct semester/term (18/FA – Fall Semester; 18/FA/A – Fall Term, 18/OM/2 = Online Term 2). 
     
  • Don’t Cancel That Class – The Division of Student Affairs is pleased to offer Don’t Cancel That Class to faculty members who may be away for conference travel, meetings, etc.  You may request a Student Affairs staff member to present on a particular topic (e.g., job interview skills, dealing with test anxiety, financial literacy, etc.) or welcome them to present on the topic of their choice.  To make arrangements for an upcoming class, please contact Senior Coordinator for Residence Life and Student Conduct, Caitlin Hodges at hodges@callutheran.edu.

  • Academic Difficulty Notices for Traditional Undergraduates: The official reporting period for Academic Difficulty Notices (ADNs) begins Wed., Feb. 13. The goal is to have an early start in identifying the students who might be struggling. Please submit unsatisfactory grades for your students who are earning a C- or below through WebAdvisor between Feb. 13-Mar. 1. Only one submission per student in a particular class is requested during this time frame. Academic Services will reach out to these students and offer support until the last day to withdraw with a "W" (April 11).   • Grantwriting Academy: The next workshop in the Grantwriting Academy, titled "Who Will Fund My Project: Grantseeking Strategies and Tools," will help you explore funding ideas for your project or program.
