Events

• As a reminder, the Cal Lutheran Blackboard system is migrating from on premises to the cloud. To accommodate the move, starting at midnight on December 26 until noon December 29, blackboard will be available within the MyCLU portal in a read only mode. This means students cannot submit assignments and faculty cannot post grades within Blackboard (some of you do) during that time. However, student work prior to the cutoff can be viewed and downloaded as necessary. Students and faculty will be able to access Blackboard and make changes within Blackboard after noon on December 29. WebAdvisor will be available during this time for faculty to submit grades.

• Nominations and expressions of interest are invited for two positions in the College of Arts and Sciences: Associate Dean for Inclusion & Research/Creative Scholarship and Associate Dean for Students & Faculty Affairs. These positions carry a negotiable term of service and will commence in Fall 2020. Position descriptions can be found here:  AD for Students and Faculty Affairs,  AD for Inclusion & Research/Creative Scholarship.  Specific details about the positions can be provided upon request. • IRB Update - At this point, all of the researchers with ongoing projects that were previously approved by IRB have been contacted.  They have been asked to provide additional information and/or have been given the "green light" to resume their research. If you or your students have an ongoing research project and have NOT been contacted, please email IRB@callutheran.edu.  New IRB applications are now being accepted.  Click here to apply via the IRB website.
   
• Incomplete Grades – Are you assigning an “IN” (Incomplete) this semester or term?  Please consider using the Incomplete Grade Contract: Click here to find the Incomplete Grade Contract under the Forms heading. For questions please contact Academic Services. Here are the Policies on Incomplete Grades (Please note that this form and policy are not for PLTS):
• Undergraduate Student Policy:  A grade of "IN" (Incomplete) may be assigned only in the case of students who, for illness or other circumstances beyond their control, have missed a final examination or major piece of work. Students may not make up the Incomplete by repeating the course. For traditional undergraduate students, an "IN" automatically becomes an "F" if not made up by the published date for the last day to withdraw from a course of the following regular semester after the Incomplete grade was given. For Bachelor's Degree for Professionals students, an "IN" automatically becomes an "F" if not made up by the last day of the following term.
• Graduate Student Policy: A grade of “IN” (Incomplete) may be assigned only in the case of a student who, for illness or other circumstances beyond his or her control, has missed a final examination or major piece of work. A student may not make up the Incomplete by repeating the course. Make-up work must be evaluated by the instructor who assigned the original grade of Incomplete. If not made up within one year’s time, an “IN” automatically becomes an “NC.” A student may petition in writing to extend an “IN” beyond one year if there are extenuating circumstances.

• Student Commencement Speakers: We are looking for faculty interested in joining the group that will choose the 2020 student commencement speakers. If you are interested in serving on this group, please email Karissa Oien at koien@callutheran.edu by Dec. 20.
   
• Artists and Speakers Funding - Looking for funding for that special artist or speaker you would like to bring to campus? Click here to submit your proposals to the Artists and Speakers committee. • Project CHESS Faculty Learning CIRCLE Collaborative application now open for 2020-2021-The Culturally Inclusive & Responsive Curricula for Learning Equity (CIRCLE) Collaborative brings together faculty learning communities (FLCs) from Cal Lutheran and Moorpark College to participate in a year-long professional development program that provides the tools to (re)design syllabi to be more culturally relevant, responsive, and sustaining for historically marginalized students. The application for the 2020-2021 cohort is now open to Cal Lutheran University and Moorpark College faculty. Program Dates- 3-Day Workshop: May 27-29, 2020;1-Day Workshop: January 8, 2021;3-Day Workshop June 2-4, 2021. • Festival of Scholars: The last day to plan a session to be included in the 2020 Festival of Scholars is Jan. 27, 2020. Click here to complete the Session Request Form and return to fos@callutheran.edu or Ashley Morris at MC 1425.
   
• The Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Scholarship, along with the ALLIES office, are in the planning stages for the upcoming 2020 Summer Research Fellowship application cycle. Please click here to let us know if you plan to work with students to apply for a Cal Lutheran undergraduate research fellowship. This form is non-binding and will give us a general idea of how many faculty are available and willing to work with students this summer. If you would like more information about summer undergraduate research opportunities, please email ourcs@callutheran.edu.
