  • Harold Stoner Clark Lecture Series presents: The Metaphysical Problem in Race Theory - Quayshawn Spencer, Tues., Feb. 18, Samuelson Chapel. Dr. Spencer is the Robert S. Blank Presidential Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Pennsylvania. A pre-lecture discussion will be led by Brian Collins (Philosophy), Fri., Feb. 14, 2:15pm, Overton Hall.
    • Lecture 1: 11:10am - "When Population Genetics Meets the Metaphysics of Race." **Please note we will be on Convocation Schedule with classes ending at 11:00am and resuming at 12:40pm.
    • Lecture 2: 4:00pm - "A Radical Solution to the Race Problem."

  • Entrepreneur Speaker Series presents "Mixing crawfish and cajun in building a franchise" with Dada Ngo, co-founder of The Boiling Crab franchise, Wed., Feb. 5, 7-8pm, Lundring Events Center. Admission is free, but registration is requested.

  • Traditional Undergraduate Faculty Advisors - Fall 2020 Student Registration Dates to Note:
    • Feb. 10 – First day Faculty are able to clear traditional undergraduate students for registration for Fall 2020
    • Week of Feb. 18 – Fall 2020 Schedule of classes available in Self-Service Student Planning and Web Advisor
    • Week of Feb. 24 – Appointment times emailed to students’ Cal Lutheran email account. Day after appointment times are sent to students, pop-up in myCLU portal alerts students to their registration restrictions
    • Mar. 16 to Mar. 20 – Advance Registration period for continuing Traditional Undergraduate Students for Fall 2020 (students will have appointment times for registration during this time)
       
  • College Administrative Fellowship Call for Applications – The College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office is pleased to announce the call for nominations for the College Administrative Fellows Program for Summer 2020. The College Administrative Fellows Program is a signature professional development program that focuses intentionally on developing academic administrative leadership skills. The perceived benefits of the program include not only improvements in academic leadership, but also enhanced opportunities for collaboration among schools.
    • Maximum amount: $2000 (depending on the nature/extent of the expected duties, teaching release time, up to one course per semester may be negotiated as appropriate should the position be extended to the academic year).
    • How to apply: Submit a completed application form, a one-page Statement of Interest, a current CV, and a brief letter of support from the faculty member’s Department Chair or Program Coordinator (all to be submitted online).
    • Deadline: Feb 15, 2020 (no later than 5pm)

  • McNair Scholars Program update: Dr. Grady Hanrahan has assumed the duties of Interim Project Director. In support, Xilen Ramirez has transitioned from Program Coordinator to Interim Associate Director. Xilen will be responsible for day-to-day action items related to the program. Dr. Jesus Cordova Guerrero is permanently taking on the role of Faculty Principal Investigator (PI).   • Don’t Cancel That Class – The Division of Student Affairs is pleased to offer Don’t Cancel That Class to faculty members who may be away for conference travel, meetings, etc.  You may request a Student Affairs staff member to present on a particular topic (e.g., job interview skills, dealing with test anxiety, study skills, etc.) or welcome them to present on the topic of their choice.  To make arrangements for an upcoming class, please contact Director of Housing Operations, Caitlin Hodges at hodges@callutheran.edu.
     
  • IRB Update - At this point, all of the researchers with ongoing projects that were previously approved by IRB have been contacted.  They have been asked to provide additional information and/or have been given the "green light" to resume their research. If you or your students have an ongoing research project and have NOT been contacted, please email IRB@callutheran.eduNew IRB applications are now being accepted.  Click here to apply via the IRB website.

  • Interfaith Lunch for Faculty and Staff, Wed., Feb. 12, 12-1pm, Kingsmen Room (SU114).  Come together over lunch to learn about each other and mutually create a community of inclusion and welcome. This year, the topics of the lunches will center around chapters selected from Barbara Brown Taylor’s Holy Envy.
