Spotlight

 

  • Forum on Cal Lutheran's Race and Ethnic Climate with Dr. Shaun Harper, Mon., Feb. 24, 3-5pm, Gilbert Arena. Our Cal Lutheran community is invited to participate in a conversation led by Dr. Shaun Harper from University of Southern California’s Race and Equity Center. Dr. Harper will discuss Cal Lutheran’s results from participation in the Spring 2019 National Assessment of Collegiate Campus Climate (NACCC), as well as engage our community in conversation about the university’s racial and ethnic climate.  For more information or to submit your questions, visit CalLutheran.edu/harper. All campus offices will be closed. If you are teaching during this time, you are welcome to bring your class to the session.

  • China Travel Notice: The Department of State has escalated the Travel Advisory to China to a Level 4: Do Not Travel. Cal Lu faculty/staff/students should not be traveling to China on university business. If you have any plans to travel to China in the immediate future, please consult Associate Provost for Global Engagement, Dr. Christina Sanchez, at global@callutheran.edu prior to making arrangements. The Office of International Students and Scholars is working directly with our international students from China.  If you encounter a student in distress over the developing situation in China re: the Novel Coronavirus, please remind them they can seek support from Counseling and Psychological Services.  
     
  • IRB Announcement - New Classroom Research Projects Policy - Cal Lutheran has implemented a new policy for human subjects research undertaken by student investigators for the sole purpose of obtaining course credit (projects involving human subjects research in Psychology, Research Methods, Exercise Science, etc.). Classroom Research Projects that meet certain requirements may be excluded from review and approval by the Cal Lutheran IRB. In such cases, instructors take full responsibility for overseeing the project and assuring ethical principles are adhered to in the conduct of the project’s activities. The complete list of requirements for Classroom Projects can be found in the new Classroom Research Projects Policy available on the IRB website. For more information on research projects that are subject to IRB review and approval, please consult with the Cal Lutheran IRB at irb@callutheran.edu.
     
  • Academic Difficulty Notices (ADNs) for Traditional Undergraduates: The official reporting period for ADNs has begun. Please submit unsatisfactory grades for your students who are earning a C- or below through WebAdvisor by Mar. 6. This will provide an early start in identifying the students who might be struggling. Only one midterm grade submission per student in a particular class is requested for the semester. Academic Services will reach out to these students and offer support until the last day to withdraw with a "W" (April 13).   • 2020 Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships application is available. The deadline is Mar. 1. Click here for instructions.
     
  • Faculty Research and Creative Work Award (FRCW) - Applications for are now being accepted. Please click here to view additional information. Applications are due by Mar. 2.
     
  • President’s Award for Teaching Excellence - The Awards Committee, in collaboration with the Faculty Affairs Committee, seeks nominations for the 2020 President’s Award for Teaching Excellence.  The Awards Committee will vet all nominations through colleagues, chairs and deans, and three years of teaching evaluations. From this process, one candidate will be recommended to the President for final approval. The recipient of this award will be announced at the Honors Convocation.We encourage you to nominate a colleague by sending an email with your rationale for the nomination. Please submit your nomination to Maureen Lorimer at mlorimer@callutheran.edu by Mar. 6.
     
  • Provost Distinguished Scholar Award (PDSA) - Nominations are now being accepted. Please click here to review additional information. All nominations will be submitted to the Deans by Mar. 6. Each Dean will review applications and recommend one recipient. Recommendations and supporting documents will be forwarded to the Awards Committee by Mar. 15. The Awards Committee, Faculty Affairs Committee, and the Provost will make a final decision.
     
  • Traditional Undergraduate Faculty Advisors - Fall 2020 Student Registration Dates to Note:
    • Feb. 10 – First day Faculty are able to clear traditional undergraduate students for registration for Fall 2020
    • Week of Feb. 18 – Fall 2020 Schedule of classes available in Self-Service Student Planning and Web Advisor
    • Week of Feb. 24 – Appointment times emailed to students’ Cal Lutheran email account. Day after appointment times are sent to students, pop-up in myCLU portal alerts students to their registration restrictions
    • Mar. 16 to Mar. 20 – Advance Registration period for continuing Traditional Undergraduate Students for Fall 2020 (students will have appointment times for registration during this time)
  • August Faculty Retreat - Wed., Aug. 26 (beginning at noon) - Thurs., Aug. 27 (ending at 4pm), River Ridge Residence Inn by Marriott, 2101 West Vineyard Ave., Oxnard.   • Interfaith Lunch for Faculty and Staff, Wed., Mar. 11, 12-1pm, Kingsmen Room (SU114).  Come together over lunch to learn about each other and mutually create a community of inclusion and welcome. This year, the topics of the lunches will center around chapters selected from Barbara Brown Taylor’s Holy Envy.   • Leadership Awards: Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to recognize members of the Cal Lutheran community for their outstanding accomplishments and contributions by nominating them for a Cal Lutheran Leadership Award.  Click here to nominate a student, faculty or staff member by March 20. Final candidate nominees and their nominators will be invited to attend the Leadership Awards banquet on April 22.   • New Global Leaders Community for students: Residence Life has partnered with the Center for Global Engagement to offer the Global Leaders Community (GLC) in Kramer Court. If you have students who have studied abroad, have a major or minor in Global Studies or Languages and Cultures, are an international or exchange student, or simply have a desire to learn about and from different cultures, the GLC is for THEM! Interested students should contact Residence Life (reslife@callutheran.edu) for access to the GLC application.
