Announcements for the week of May 26

Spotlight

Thank you to everyone who attended the Race and Equity Workshop with Shaun Harper last week. This workshop reiterated what we learned in the Town Hall in February that we have extensive work to do on our campus to address issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion. If you did not attend the workshop, you are expected to watch the recording of it (adjunct faculty should include time for this on your timesheet). You will find a link to the workshop here. I am making it my priority to work with you to change our curriculum so we can better educate our students about racial issues and prepare them to live and lead in a diverse world. Beyond the classroom, we must create an environment where our students, faculty, and staff feel safe and valued. We are far from achieving that and we need everyone to make this our priority.

Digital Learning Webinars on VidGrid: All schools (except the Graduate School of Psychology) are migrating from Panopto to Vidgrid over the next month. Panopto is an asynchronous (recorded, can be viewed anytime) video capture service available within Blackboard courses. Vidgrid is an easier to use and more feature rich video capture software. ITS is working with Vidgrid to move Faculty curated videos on Panopto to Vidgrid over the next month. Please refrain from creating any new content in Panopto as it will reach end of life on June 30. In response to several faculty requesting VidGrid in order to start recording their lectures, the Digital Learning team has put together several training sessions. Click here to see session dates/times and to RSVP. This training will go over recommended preparations for the transition from Panopto to VidGrid, recording with VidGrid, and making videos available in Blackboard.

Faculty Development: Summer Teaching and Training - Preparing for alternative course delivery? What resources do you need to better prepare? Are there any on-line tools you would like to learn or master? How do we best keep in touch with our students during the summer transition? These are a few questions/ideas we plan to cover through a variety of workshops and training sessions. Grady Hanrahan and the Digital Learning Team want to hear from you. Please send any ideas or needs you may have to Grady at ghanraha@callutheran.edu.

Reminder: Cal Lutheran Travel Restrictions: At the moment all away travel is restricted for university personnel. Until Cal Lutheran lifts the travel freeze, university funds cannot be applied for any faculty/staff travel: international or domestic. The following considerations need to be kept in mind:
  • The university has placed a freeze on all university-related travel as of March 2020.
  • The Business Office is not processing reimbursement/advancement for travel as it is presently restricted.
  • The university’s international insurance policy (EIIA/EuropAssist) is not in effect for non-authorized university international travel.
  • If the university releases its freeze on travel, the ability to travel to an international location is still dependent upon certain factors and requires vetting through the Center for Global Engagement (CGE):
    • What is the country’s DOS / CDC / WHO rating?
    • Is the city’s warning level different from the country warning level?
    • Is the university’s international insurance provider (EIIA/EuropAssist) providing coverage in the destination?
Any faculty/staff planning on business international travel should submit their information to the linked California Lutheran Faculty/Staff Travel Registry Form so the CGE can provide guidance and notify individuals if restrictions are lifted. Please contact CGE at global@callutheran.edu with any questions about the travel freeze and/or the Travel Registry.
