Announcements for the week of June 1, 2020

Spotlight

Preparing for the Fall: We have established some guidelines that will be followed as we plan for Fall 2020 and posted them here. There is information on how different academic programs will offer classes as well as plans regarding social distancing, testing, monitoring and operations. These guidelines are based on current directives from county, state and federal public health officials and the American College Health Association. We expect changes to these directives over the following weeks. Accordingly, this document is meant as a starting point for fall planning and is expected to change over time. Additionally, we have developed surveys for students, faculty and staff to help us prepare for fall and work toward accommodating individual needs. Please answer the brief questionnaire as soon as possible, and update it as circumstances change.

Coming to Campus: Campus access is still restricted to only those individuals who have been specifically approved to work on campus. If you need to come to campus you must send an email to campussafety@callutheran.edu and to Leanne Neilson (neilson@callutheran.edu) indicating the date/time that you want to come to campus and the location where you need access. After receiving approval, you will need to check in at the screening station when you arrive on campus. You also need to stay 6 feet away from others and wear a mask when in the presence of others.

Digital Learning Resources: Did you know that Cal Lutheran’s Digital Learning Team has a variety of resources available for virtual instruction and on-line learning? These learning resources are designed to be engaging and practical across a variety of disciplines. We encourage you to take advantage of these resources: https://www.callutheran.edu/offices/ctl/remote-resources/

Digital Learning Webinars on VidGrid: All schools (except the Graduate School of Psychology) are migrating from Panopto to Vidgrid over the next month. Panopto is an asynchronous (recorded, can be viewed anytime) video capture service available within Blackboard courses. Vidgrid is an easier to use and more feature rich video capture software. ITS is working with Vidgrid to move Faculty curated videos on Panopto to Vidgrid over the next month. Please refrain from creating any new content in Panopto as it will reach end of life on June 30. In response to several faculty requesting VidGrid in order to start recording their lectures, the Digital Learning team has put together several training sessions. Click here to see session dates/times and to RSVP. This training will go over recommended preparations for the transition from Panopto to VidGrid, recording with VidGrid, and making videos available in Blackboard.

Faculty Development: Summer Teaching and Training - Preparing for alternative course delivery? What resources do you need to better prepare? Are there any on-line tools you would like to learn or master? How do we best keep in touch with our students during the summer transition? These are a few questions/ideas we plan to cover through a variety of workshops and training sessions. Grady Hanrahan and the Digital Learning Team want to hear from you. Please send any ideas or needs you may have to Grady at ghanraha@callutheran.edu.
