Spotlight

 

New Training Sessions for Faculty: The Digital Learning Department will continue to offer on campus and online (via Zoom) training for faculty through Fri., Jan. 15. Adequate steps will be taken to ensure all COVID-19 precautions are followed for all on campus trainings. Click here for more information and to RSVP. The trainings include:

  • Teaching in a Hybrid Flexible (HyFlex) / Split Classroom
  • Student Engagement: Using Active Learning Strategies to Engage Students in Zoom
  • Building Community Between Two Audiences (On-Ground and Remote Students)
  • Using Minimum Quality Matters (QM) Standards/Rubric in Building Your Spring Courses
  • How to be Successful in Blackboard and Zoom

Fall 20 semester due dates for grades. If you have any difficulty or questions regarding submitting your grades, please contact Maria Kohnke at kohnke@callutheran.edu.

  • Traditional undergraduate Fall 20 grades were due Fri., Dec. 11 at noon.
  • Graduate semester programs and PLTS grades are are due Mon., Jan. 4 at 8 am.

  • Campus closed for Winter Break beginning Thurs., Dec. 24 and will re-open again Mon., Jan. 4, 2021. On or before January 4, faculty and staff will receive a notification about on-site work. That communication will include our plans to offer classes indoors and outdoors for the start of the spring semester.
     
  • Checking Your Email Daily: The campus will be closed for the holiday break as scheduled (December 24th through January 3rd). For all times other than the holiday break, faculty should check email on a daily basis and respond to student inquiries. Please place a vacation message on your email during the 12/24 – 1/3 holiday break so students are aware that the campus is closed during this time. Even though the campus is closed, you should continue to check your email regularly during the holiday break in case students need an immediate reply.
     
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday - Mon., Jan. 18 - Most administrative offices closed.
     
  • Academic Affairs Policies and Practices for Winter, Intersession, and Spring: Please read through the linked policies for Winter term, Intersession, and Spring. This document includes information on faculty handbook policies as they relate to the current situation, classroom practices, and COVID-19 protocol/reporting and sick time. Click here to view.
     
  • The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center has an opportunity for students to receive a 9-week paid internship at the University of Washington. Please direct any interested students to Allan Knox, Director of OURCS, at aknox@callutheran.edu. Click here for more information.
     
  • Festival of Scholars: The last day to plan a session to be included in Festival of Scholars is Jan. 17, 2021. Please complete the Session Request Form here and return to fos@callutheran.edu or Grady Hanrahan at ghanraha@callutheran.edu
     
  • Save the Date: 2021 Winter Faculty Retreat, Tues., Jan.19, 9am-12pm, via Zoom. All full-time and part-time faculty welcome!  The Faculty Assembly meeting will be held following the retreat from 1-2:30pm. Please click here to complete a short survey regarding the retreat.
     
  • Fifty and Better (FAB) Winter Session & January Lectures:  FAB’s 6-week Winter Session begins on Jan. 19, and registration is now open! Courses include: History of Women Artists, America and the Cold War, American Life Through Broadway Musicals, Pioneer Women of the Movies, and more! We hope you will join us for these captivating courses. Individuals 50+ are welcome, please share with your friends and family! FAB will also be hosting lectures in early January. Join us as JPL’s Luis Velasco talks about the Perseverance Rover and the challenges leading up to the February landing, and Eleanor Schrader takes us on a journey out West through Frank Lloyd Wright’s architecture.   • Save the Date: The Office of Sponsored Research and Projects is presenting a grant writing series for faculty and staff. The next workshop is titled Step One: Designing the Project. This workshop will be held virtually on Tues., Jan. 26, from 11:15 am to 12:30 pm. Click here to view the topics for the entire series and to register.   • IRB Reminder - There will be no IRB Committee activity during Winter Break, Dec. 24, 2020 through Jan. 1, 2021. Regular committee activity will resume on Mon., Jan. 4, 2021.
     
  • Card swipe: All faculty and staff now have card swipe access to all buildings on campus. You will still need to complete the daily health check form before coming to campus each day.
     
  • All faculty are invited to submit items of request or concern to the Senate via the Petition Response Chart on the Faculty Senate & Assembly Blackboard page. (Adjunct Faculty see the Adjunct Faculty Connect Blackboard page.) These forms are anonymous unless you self identify.
