  • Faculty Senate Meeting, Mon., Aug. 22, 3:30-5pm, via Zoom.  You can find the agenda and Zoom information at this link. You must be logged in to your CLU account to access the agenda. The meeting will be held virtually over Zoom. All faculty are invited and welcome to attend this Faculty Senate meeting. If you have any questions or comments about the Faculty Senate or its work, please contact your Faculty Senate representative.

  • All Campus Picnic, Tues., Aug. 23, 12-2pm, Pepper Grove. Come by to see your colleagues and to meet the new faculty!
     
  • August Faculty Retreat - Wed., Aug. 24 (beginning at noon-lunch will be served) - Thurs., Aug. 25 (ending at 4pm), Ventura Beach Marriott, 2055 East Harbor Blvd., Ventura. A few items to note:
    • Bring a smart device for voting at the Faculty Assembly (e.g. phone, iPad, laptop, etc.)
    • We strongly encourage all retreat participants to rapid test to ensure that you test negative before arriving at the faculty retreat.
    • Masks will be provided and are required to be worn indoors regardless of vaccination status, except when eating or drinking.
    • Arrive at 11:30am to get a new faculty profile photo taken.
    • Please wear your CLU Nametag.
    • If you are attending the dinner BBQ, bring a jacket, as it can get cool by the water.

  • Opening Convocation/President's Welcome (TUG), Fri., Aug. 26, 3:30-4:30pm. Faculty meet in Lundring at 3pm, in regalia. Full-time faculty who teach in the traditional undergraduate program are expected to attend. All other faculty are strongly encouraged to attend.
     
  • FAB Summer Lecture Series presents "Dealers & Collaborators: The Famous and Infamous Art Houses of WWII, Part 1," Mon., Aug. 29, 10am, via Zoom. Click here to register by Aug. 26 at 1pm.
     
  • First Day of Fall Classes:
    • Traditional Undergraduates, PROS, Grad 11-week and Grad 15-week programs - Mon., Aug. 29.
    • PLTS - Tues., Sept. 6.
       
  • Staff and Faculty Lunch begins Wed., Aug. 31, 11am - 1pm, in the reserved area in the Ullman Dining Commons. The discounted price of $8 + tax includes all menu options offered in the Dining Commons.
     
  • Graduate Faculty Meeting: The Council of Graduate Deans is hosting a fall graduate faculty meeting (both full-time and adjunct) on Wed., Aug 31, from 2-3pm. The meeting will be virtual to facilitate as much participation as possible; a link will be sent the week of the meeting. If there are specific items that you would like to discuss, please submit your suggestion and/or question to the council chair, Mike Hillis (mhillis@callutheran.edu)
     
  • SAVE THE DATES: Provost Neilson will share information with the faculty at Provost Forums on the following dates. Faculty can attend in-person or via Zoom, and forums will be recorded for those who teach at this time. Locations will be in next week's faculty announcements.

  • Students’ Preferred Name: The student names on your course roster may not reflect what a student prefers that you use. You need to give your students an opportunity to privately provide you with their preferred name on the first day of class, or better yet, email your students before the first day and ask them to let you know their preferred name. Please do not read out first names without offering a private opportunity for students to give you this information.
     
  • New for Fall 2022: CTL Faculty Book Group Convos! CTL’s Lunch Series has evolved into 5 Book Groups featuring a variety of HE topics by celebrated authors including: Teaching to combat stressors, Black feminism, Active learning in the Sciences, Teaching beyond gender binary, and Teaching neurodiverse students.   • Academic Difficulty Notices for Traditional Undergraduates: Save the date. The official reporting period for the Fall 2022 Academic Difficulty Notices (ADNs) is Mon., Sept. 19 through Fri., Oct 21. This is the University’s early warning system to identify students who may be struggling in their academics. Additional information can be found on www.callutheran.edu/adn.
     
  • Cal Lutheran’s Fifty and Better (FAB) Upcoming Fall Session: The Fifty and Better program’s Fall Session begins the week of Sept. 6!  Join them for six-week courses and two-week lectures on topics such as art of the Italian Baroque period, climate change, a modern history of Jerusalem, the music of Nashville, global economics, and more!   • Sabbatical Opportunity: Visiting Faculty in England:  Located about one hour north of London in Grantham, England, Harlaxton College is seeking visiting faculty members in the arts and sciences for Fall 2023 (arts specifically) and Spring 2024 (arts and sciences).   • Welcome! Latinx Affinity Group: The Latinx Affinity Group leadership team welcomes returning and new Latinx members to the 2022-2023 academic year!   • Teaching Vocational Exploration Seminar: Cal Lutheran can nominate one faculty member to be considered for a NetVUE "Teaching Vocational Exploration" Seminar which will take place June 12-16, 2023. Information can be found here.  Sixteen participants will be selected. One expectation of the seminar is to develop a new course, or to redesign an existing course, with greater focus on vocational exploration during the 2023-24 academic year.   • Faculty Fulbright Deadline Reminder: Craft your application for the upcoming Fulbright program over the summer! The application deadline for the 2023-2024 cycle is Thurs., Sept. 15, 2022. As a reminder, Fulbright opportunities range from a few months to a full year. Some awards offer flexible duration grants that can be conducted over short segments.
