Spotlight

 

  • FacultySenate meeting, Mon., Nov. 14, 3:30-5pm. You can find the agenda at this link. The meeting is located in room 124 of the Swenson Center for Social and Behavioral Sciences. Those who wish to observe the meeting remotely may join via Zoom (link is provided in the agenda). Full-time faculty senators are expected to attend in-person, with the exception of those in the PLTS and Santa Maria locations. All members of the Cal Lutheran community are welcome to join the meeting. If you have any questions or comments about the Faculty Senate or its work, please contact your Faculty Senate representative.

  • International Education Week (IEW) : Nov 14-18. IEW is here! You and your students are invited to join us for the all of the IEW programs, including our showcase cultural engagement World Fair with country-culture tables and international cuisine (Wed, 5-7pm); the international film screening of The Lunchbox (Thurs, 5:30pm); and more!   • Junior Faculty Conversations with Provost Neilson. Today’s Junior Faculty conversation had to be cancelled. There is one more scheduled for this semester on Fri., Dec. 9, from 2:15-3:00 in Ullman Commons 100/101. These meetings are hosted by the Junior Faculty Senator, LaVerne Seales, with Provost Neilson and the Junior Faculty (full-time faculty in their first six years), to facilitate open dialogue and conversation.   • MPPA Policy Talk Series presents "Developing Leaders in City Management: How to Build a Diverse and Sustainable Workforce," Mon., Nov. 14, 5:30pm, Lundring Events Center. Admission is free, but registration is requested.
     
  • Fifty and Better Program presents a FREE Virtual Tour and Survivor Talk - Holocaust Museum LA, Tues., Nov. 15, 10am, via Zoom. The event is free, but registration is required by 3pm on Nov. 14.
     
  • Faculty Fulbright Information Session, Tues., Nov. 15, 11:30am-12:15pm, Student Union Carol’s Corner--Conference Room Upstairs, across from Career Services. Interested in funding support to teach and/or conduct research overseas? Join the Center for Global Engagement for an open information session to learn about the Fulbright US Scholars Program.   • FAB Fall Lecture Series presents "The Dead Sea Scrolls: Origins, Discover and Meaning (Part 2)," Thurs., Nov. 17, 1pm, via Zoom. Click here to register.
     
  • Adjunct Faculty Council Meeting - Thurs., Nov. 17, 4-5pm on Zoom (link). CIO Zareh Marselian will discuss the possibility of switching to a new learning management system (i.e. replacing Blackboard). All adjunct faculty are welcome to attend.
     
  • Complimentary Online Racelighting Course, Thurs., Nov. 17 (live); Recordings Available. The Center for Organizational Responsibility and Advancement (CORA) is offering a five-part course series addressing how schools, colleges, and universities can address racelighting. Racelighting is an act of psychological manipulation where people of color receive racial messages that distort their realities and lead them to second-guess themselves.The program is designed for educators, counselors, and administrators in preK-20 education who would like to learn more. The final live session is on Nov. 17. If you cannot attend live, you can register and receive the past modules and recordings. 
     
  • Theatre and Dance Department presents the Mainstage Production, Shakespeare in Love, Thurs. through Sat., Nov. 17-19 at 8pm, and Sun., Nov. 20 at 2pm, Black Box Theatre. Admission is $10, free with CLU ID.|
     
  • ACE Internationalization Lab Program Review Findings, Fri., Nov. 18, 2:00-3:30, Ullman 100-101. The campus community is invited to learn about the findings and recommendations from the campus review of our global initiatives. Dr. Kara Godwin, Director of Internationalization at the American Council on Education, will share an update followed by round-table discussion with the members of the CLU ACE Lab Think Tank to discuss related academic and co-curricular matters.   • The Academic Calendars for the next 5 years can be found on the Academic Services website at this link.
     
  • Spring/Summer 2023 registration for traditional undergraduates: Students can stop by the Academic Services building from 9am to 4pm on Nov. 14 for drop-in advising. If students need a refresher on Student Planning, advising information can be found on www.callutheran.edu/advising101.
     
  • Finals week is quickly approaching, and Disability Support Services (DSS) is requesting your assistance. DSS students are responsible for submitting their Testing Requests for finals week between Mon., Nov. 7 through Mon., Nov. 21. Students will need information from you about WHEN and HOW your final exam will be administered, such as exactly how long the class will get to complete the final and if tests will be administered online or if they will be done with pencil and paper.   • Festival of Scholars: The 2023 Festival of Scholars will be held during the week of April 24-28, 2023.
