Blackboard: Groups-March 1

In this workshop, you learn to facilitate collaboration among students by setting up groups. In Blackboard Learn, groups can have their own discussion board, blog, journals, and wikis. Group members can exchange documents, submit group assignments, send email to other group members, and distribute tasks to keep the group on track.

Blackboard: Quizzes/Tests-March 8

In Blackboard Learn, you can use quizzes/tests to measure student knowledge, gauge progress, and gather information from students. In this workshop, the main focus is on creating tests and questions, choosing appropriate settings, and adding tests to course areas. Along the way, you will learn some best practices for using tests as teaching tools and encouraging academic honesty.

Creating a Pre-Recorded Lecture in Panopto-March 13

So you’ve heard about pre-recorded lectures. Now what? Join our Lecture Capture Specialist, Kaitlin Hodgdon, to get a walk-through on how to record your lectures using materials that are freely available to you at Cal Lutheran. Before you know it, you’ll be ready to churn out your lectures and post them online with just a few clicks! Please note that this time will allow for questions afterwards and one-on-one help during the workshop.

Please come prepared with a short PowerPoint presentation as well as either a laptop equipped with a webcam, or a USB webcam.

Blackboard: Adding Media-March 15

The addition of video and audio content to a course can generate discussion, demonstrate topics with real-world examples and provide an additional opportunity for retention and comprehension. Using multimedia items in a course enables students to reinforce, analyze and evaluate content and helps accommodate visual and oral learning styles. Streaming multimedia can be placed directly into your Blackboard content area. You can upload content once to use in multiple courses. Kaitlin Hodgdon, Lecture Capture Specialist will join to discuss adding video content to your course.

Blackboard: Blogs-March 22

Blog writing assignments are a medium for reflective learning. For topics such as daily experiences or the progression of a project, blogs are ideal because of their chronological structure. Your students can have individual blogs or your groups can have shared blogs. Video, audio, images and links to external websites can also be included. This is an effective tool for students to post short pieces of writing and receive feedback from instructors or peers through comments.

Adjunct Faculty Retreat-March 25th

A half day retreat from 8:45am to 1:15pm for all Cal Lutheran Adjunct Faculty. RSVP here. Breakfast and lunch will be served. Events will take place in Overton Hall and Humanities 113, 114 and 116. Blackboard: Journals-March 29

Journals are a great option when you want students to reflect on a certain topic or experience. Journals are by default private between you and your students. Entries are in chronological order and the instructor can add comments to any entry. Instructors have used journals to collaborate with students on portions of their written work. If appropriate, you can make student journals visible to other students.
