Student Success in the New Year

chriskimballDear Cal Lutheran Families,

I hope you enjoyed joyful time with your students over the winter break.
We are happy to welcome them back to campus for the second half of
our academic year.

While your students were home, they may have shared first semester highlights. Perhaps they had the opportunity to work on advanced laboratory research with faculty mentors, expand web design or
animation skills, or participate in a professional development or cultural club. Many students took advantage of our Career Services to create or polish resumes and receive support for internship and job searches, and others were inspired by our business school’s entrepreneurship program. Perhaps your students took part in intramurals, cheered on our athletic teams, or enjoyed workouts in our fitness facility. Many attended (and I hope you did, too) the annual Homecoming & Family Weekend, in which thousands of students, alumni and friends from near and far celebrated Cal Lutheran past and present through popular traditions like our Loop da Lu 5k, Homecoming Festival, the Carnival, Kingsmen football, alumni soccer games, Monte Carlo Night, and the Student Research Symposium.

The spring semester offers fresh opportunities to learn and to get involved. New classes will help students discover or deepen their passion and purpose. The Spring Involvement Fair will feature 100 clubs and organizations that students can join. Our Career and Intern Expo in March will bring multiple employers to campus offering students a chance to showcase their talents and skills. During these college years of developing skills, participating in campus activities and events helps students feel connected and engaged.  Our faculty and staff are committed to doing everything we can to help your students succeed and realize their tremendous potential. Please continue to encourage your students to take full advantage of their time here. We offer resources for those who may be struggling. If your student has a need that is not being addressed, please contact me or Dean of Students Melinda Roper.

Finally, please know that planning is well underway for our 54th Commencement on May 12-13, 2017. For parents of graduating students, information about Commencement is available here.

Thank you for the privilege of educating and nurturing your students.

All of us at Cal Lutheran wish you and your family joy, health, and peace in the new year.

Sincerely,

Chris Kimball
