The government pays the interest while the student is in school. Students must be enrolled at least half time (three or more credits) to receive a Federal Direct Subsidized Loan.<\/p>\n<h5 class=\"fw-bold mb-2\">Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans<\/h5>\n<p>Eligibility for the <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/understand-aid\/types\/loans\/subsidized-unsubsidized\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan<\/a> is determined by the FAFSA and is not need-based. Students must be enrolled at least half time (three credits or more per term) to receive a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan. Eligibility will be determined by the Office of Financial Aid.<\/p>\n<h5 class=\"fw-bold mb-2\">Alternative\/Private Loans<\/h5>\n<p class=\"mb-0\">Students should always utilize any awarded Federal Direct Loans prior to seeking an alternative loan. Interest rates on alternative loans are often much higher than the Federal Direct Loan rates. Eligibility is determined by the lender. Eligible applicants must complete the general graduate scholarship application, submit a letter of motivation and be admitted before being considered for this scholarship. Applicants must also have a minimum 3.5 upper division undergraduate GPA.
