Civic Engagement Project Requirement Steps

Below outlines the process to complete the Civic Engagement Project Requirement (CEPR) in detail. In order for the requirement to be met, all projects must meet the criteria listed in “The Fine Print”. We encourage students to reach out to CEL if they have questions about whether their civic engagement project idea meets these criteria.

Before Completing the Civic Engagement Project Requirement

  • After your club's first meeting of the school year, discuss with your members about what project they would be interested in completing.
    • The project must be an action that will directly benefit the club and the population and/or cause that it serves.
    • Clubs are encouraged (not required) to commit to focusing on a specific issue for more than one year.
  • Then, you can submit a Civic Engagement Project proposal. Your club is welcomed to make an appointment with the CEL team for support on your project before submitting your proposal. Clubs must submit the proposal at least 2 weeks in advance to their project date and receive approval prior to executing the project. CEL will make the final determination if a project will count towards the Civic Engagement Project Requirement.
    • The Priority Deadline to submit your project proposal is November 4, 2022 at 11:59 PM.
      • Clubs who submit their proposal by the priority deadline will be entered into an opportunity drawing for $150 towards your club. Two clubs will be randomly selected to receive the $150 towards their club.

  • Once your project is approved, continue planning to fully execute your project.
  • For additional support and tools for project planning, please revisit the club's event planning tools discussed at training.
    • When planning, consider what roles and tasks you will have for your members to support the planning and execution of the project. Remember, 50% of your members must contribute a minimum of one-hour for the project.
