New Student Orientation

  • Orientation will be held virtually for Fall 2020 incoming students. Our staff is working on the virtual Orientation experience that will be made available on August 3rd and should be completed by incoming students by August 30th. Beginning in mid-August there will be more virtual opportunities added to connect with fellow incoming students and families.

Course Delivery

  • In order to allow students and faculty time to prepare, we have decided to change our plan and at least start the Fall Semester with all virtual classes because that is all that is allowed under current guidelines.
  • Please note the schedule appearing in your MyCLU portal is not yet finalized and subject to change. We anticipate having your prelimary schedule in mid-August.
  • All students will have the opportunity to make schedule changes before classes start.
  • All students will have the first two weeks of the semester to make schedule changes during the Add/Drop period.
  • As AP scores and college transcripts are processed, schedules will be adjusted accordingly.
  • For incoming freshmen, additional information and updates will be provided in our the Academic Services Frequently Asked Questions.

Housing

  • Fall semester move-in and move-out dates for on-campus housing have been adjusted. Students will be assigned a move-in date between Monday, August 24, and Saturday, August 29, to allow for physical distancing through a staggered schedule.
  • The residence halls will close to all students on Monday, November 23, at noon. They will remain closed during the winter break and are expected to reopen on January 15. Continuing students may leave belongings in their rooms during this time, but they won’t have ID card access. Students with special circumstances requiring housing over the break will be accommodated.
  • If students choose not to live on campus for the fall semester, they have until 5 p.m. on August 21 to cancel their housing assignments and receive a refund of their $400 housing deposit.
  • Please note that residence halls will not house as many students as in the past. Evolving health and safety guidance may require additional changes to our plans.

Meal Options

  • Ullman Dining will reopen with a “meals to-go” model for students. Specified traffic patterns and physical distancing markers in Ullman Dining will direct students in order to minimize physical contact. At this time, we anticipate that Jamba Juice and The Habit will remain closed for the fall semester. Students will have until September 11, 2020 to modify their meal plan if desired. Students living in standard residence halls will still need to hold one of our full meal plans.

Athletics

  • The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Presidents have decided they will not be competing in the NCAA categorized high-contact risk sports of football, men’s and women’s soccer, women’s volleyball and men’s water polo, and men’s and women’s basketball this fall.
  • As of now, assuming at least 3 other SCIAC teams and guidelines permit, Cal Lutheran golf, tennis, cross-country and swimming and diving may continue to compete in the fall. That decision is still to be determined and updates will be provided as needed.

Student Life Activities

  • All clubs and organizations are encouraged to continue meeting in a virtual format. Funding opportunties for virtual programming will still be available.
  • The Office of Student Life is committed to providing opportunities for engagement, community building, socialization, and development. All areas of Student Life will continue offering multiple ways to stay involved and connected. Student Life has prepared a virtual programming calendar as well as an on-campus programming calendar that will be offered as soon as state and county health guidelines permit.
