A Lecture on the Cultural and Political Democratization in Northern and East Africa: Rwanda and Tunisia

This presentaiton the discusses cultural and political democratization in Northern and East Africa with Rwanda and Tunisia as examples. Music is found to be an important component of cultural awareness, political transformation and popular resistance. This importance has led music, like hip-hop, to be a cultural form that has attracted the attention of academics, politicians, and artists. This lecture focuses on the role of music in political resistancce, democratization and cultural mobilization in Rwanda and Tunisia.
