Before You Go
Congratulations! You've been approved for study abroad and accepted into your program. You are about to begin an adventure of a lifetime! Next you'll want to review these pre-departure steps to get ready for your study abroad experience.
Pre-Departure Orientation Meeting
An informative meeting to learn more about the next steps in the study abroad preparation. This is a great opportunity to ask questions and meet fellow study abroad students.
Pre-Departure Orientation Dinner
This is the final meeting and celebration held at the end of the semester for outbound students.
Check Your Passport
If you already have a passport, check the expiration date before your departure. It must be valid for a minimum of six months after you are planning to return home. Instructions can be found on the Travel.State.Gov site.
Secure Your Student Visa
Most countries will require that you obtain a student visa prior to your departure for that country.
Make Your Travel Plans
There are countless online resources to help you buy tickets and make your plans for traveling from home and traveling while abroad.
Register with the State Department
We recommend that students register their time abroad with the U.S. Department of State through the Smart Travel Enrollment Program (STEP).
