Sigmar Schwarz to Receive Honorary Alumnus Award

The CLU Alumni Association has selected Sigmar Schwarz as the 2010 recipient of the Honorary Alumnus Award. Dr. Schwarz will be presented with the award during CLU’s undergraduate Commencement ceremony in Mt. Clef Stadium.

A member of the CLU faculty since 1972, Schwarz received his bachelor’s degrees from Augustana in Sioux Falls, S.D., and his master’s and doctoral degrees from University of Southern California. A former Woodrow Wilson Fellow and North Dakota Education Association Fellow, Schwarz is an expert in Asian Pacific and minority studies. He teaches courses on non-Western writers with an emphasis on the “voices” of Afro-American, Chicano and Native Americans. He has conducted research in Fiji and is active in the Modern Language Association and the National Council of Teachers of English. He received the President’s Award for Teaching Excellence in 2005.
