Organist Thomas Trotter

Orvil and Gloria Franzen 2014-2015 Organ Program Series

Organist Thomas Trotter

Internationally renowned organist Thomas Trotter of Birmingham, England, plays the sole concert in this year’s Orvil and Gloria Franzen series. One of Britain’s most admired musicians, he was in 2002 the first organist ever honored as Best Instrumentalist by the Royal Philharmonic Society and in 2012 was presented the International Performer of the Year Award by the New York City Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.

Appointed Birmingham City Organist in 1983, Trotter is also organist at St. Margaret’s Church in Westminster Abbey, a visiting fellow in organ studies at the Royal Northern College of Music, and an active recording artist. He tours on four continents playing at renowned concert venues and festivals.

The program includes works by Handel, Stanley, Bach, Mendelssohn and Hindemith, as well as contemporary composers James MacMillan and Errollyn Wallen. This year’s Franzen series event simultaneously honors the generous support for the Music Department of Craig and Jennifer Zobelein.
