2009 Faculty Grants Awarded

Community Leaders Association Distributes over $50,000 in Grants

CLA awarded $50,099 in faculty grants to a wide range of academic departments. This money was raised from various charitable events including the annual gala and auction. This funding allows CLU to continue to upgrade and enhance the quality of our academic programs for our students. Over the years, the association has donated more than $1.7 million toward classroom materials, equipment and technology enhancements.

2009 funding included:

  • The Multimedia Department received $15,000 for the purchase of a Vicon Motion Capture software system which captures movement information from live performing actors that are mapped to rigged computer created characters.
  • A $9,556 grant will purchase electrochemistry equipment and ph meters for enhancing lab courses in general chemistry, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry and environmental science. It is also vital for undergraduate research in organic electronic materials and analytical chemistry.
  • The Biology Department received $8,345 to purchase new laptops and specialized equipment for physiology and neuroscience labs.
  • The Music Department received $8,022 to purchase music chairs, stands and classroom equipment.
  • A $7,515 grant will purchase classroom materials, scientific calculators, projection equipment and laptop computers for the Mathematics Department.
  • A $969 grant for the Art Department will pay for a rotary paper trimmer and matt cutter for use in photography, drawing, watercolor, painting and graphic design classes.
  • The French Department received $690 for materials needed for department and special event promotion.

Grant funds were raised at the 29th Annual Auction in November.
