Basic Function
Working under minimal supervision, the Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning oversees all aspects of faculty development, including coordination of faculty development programs, technology training, support to faculty with on-ground, hybrid, and on-line course development, and advice to faculty on the best and latest pedagogies. The Director of Center for Teaching and Learning will develop in consultation with the Teaching and Learning Committee an annual faculty development plan, assist with planning the fall and winter faculty retreats, and coordinate the new faculty monthly orientation programs. The Director also manages the Center’s staff. Strong leadership and excellent communication are key to success. This position ensures that the community understands the role of the Center and skillfully navigates to both suggest ways to improve teaching with technology as well as listen and respond to requests from faculty. This position also provides direct instructional technology support at the ground level. This position reports to the Associate Provost for Information Systems and Services (ISS).
Representative Duties
• Cultivate a deep knowledge of current and emerging trends, issues, and best practices in higher education and instruction including but not limited to instructional technology, identify relevant initiatives for implementation.
• Work with the Provost, Associate Provost for ISS, Deans, and faculty committees to develop and implement an annual plan for faculty development.
• Facilitate the organization of new instructional technology events and see them through to success.
• Provide direct instructional technology support for courses, students, and faculty.
• Supervise and direct the work of all Center for Teaching and Learning staff.
• Set goals, objectives, and priorities for the team, then coordinate logistics, remove barriers, and support team members in their work toward those goals.
• Facilitate collaborative relationships and project coordination between CTL and other areas both within and outside of Information Systems and Services.
• Continuous outreach and excellent communication to the campus community, including finding ways to get buy-in from stakeholders for projects and strategic initiatives.
• Identify how each member of the team should develop professionally, and ensure that team members share new knowledge, skills, or abilities learned through professional development with the rest of the team.
• Participate in planning and budgeting for campus instructional technology needs in collaboration with the faculty, the Deans and other ISS leadership.
• Design and direct research studies and report results to inform on subjects such as course design, course sequencing, and new teaching strategies.
• Develop multimedia educational resources (ex. smartboard) to showcase how these technologies can be used effectively.
• Supervise student workers on instructional technology projects.
• Work effectively with the many constituencies in a university environment.
• Promote a culture of safety and environmental protection by working in a safe manner; immediately reporting unsafe situations and accidents; following university procedures; and participating in appropriate safety training.
• Act in a socially responsible manner and model environmental sustainability by exercising financial prudence, using resources wisely, and supporting ecological initiatives and innovation.
• Serve on, and collaborate with, campus-wide committees as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

• Understanding of both Macintosh and Windows platforms.
• Strong collaborative working style and ability to work well within a team.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Proficient with computer software programs such as Microsoft Windows Operating Systems (V 7) & 8), Macintosh Operating Systems (OS 10.x), Microsoft Office products, and more (the more, the better). Some preferred software proficiencies include Blackboard, Qualtrics, Adobe Creative Suite, some video editing package.
• Excellent customer service skills.
Working knowledge of digital cameras, digital movie cameras, classroom technology such as LCD projectors and document cameras.
Ability To
Proficient in spelling, punctuation, grammar, basic business math. Think critically and problem solve well. Handle confidential/sensitive information with discretion. Good judgment. Strong organizational skills. Experience with standard office equipment.
Education and Experience
• Master’s degree in Instruction and Curriculum, Educational Technology, or other related field. Ph.D. preferred.
• 3+ years of experience in higher education teaching.
Environment
Finger and wrist dexterity and hand/eye coordination to perform keyboard functions. Confined sitting. Light physical effort (usually lifting/moving up to 10 pounds). Good vision and hearing. Walking.
