Kingsmen Take Fourth in SCIAC All-Sports
Consistent finishes land top four finish
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Six of the 10 Cal Lutheran men's athletic programs secured
top three conference finishes earning a fourth place result in the 2008-09
SCIAC All-Sports Standings. Points are awarded based on final conference standings
for each of the nine SCIAC sports and awarded to each institution respectively.
To open the athletics campaign the Kingsmen football team earned a second
place finish in the fall. It marked the fifth time in the past six seasons CLU
earned a runner-up spot or better including a co-championship in 2007.
Baseball rounded out another successful season matching football's second
place finish in the conference standings. The 2009 campaign continued the
program's 18th straight year (since joining the SCIAC) finishing the
season with a .500 or better league record.
Men's basketball finished in a three-way tie for second after going 10-4 in
the regular season. The Kingsmen hoops squad has finished runner-up or better
the past three seasons including a co-championship last year.
Water polo, track and field, and tennis all finished third place in their
respective seasons. All three programs either matched or improved on their
finishes from the season prior.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps earned 57 points to win the men's team and overall
all-sports title. Redlands finished second with 54 and Pomona-Pitzer third
garnering 47.5 points. Cal Lutheran rounds out the top four with 42.5 points.
