Admissions Requirements
All Bachelor’s Degree for Professionals programs have the same application requirements. You are eligible to apply if you meet all of the following criteria:
- Graduated from high school or possess a GED certificate
- Completed 24 credits of college credit from accredited institutions
- Have at least a cumulative 2.25 grade point average or higher

Transferring Credits: An Overview
First thing’s first: to qualify for the Bachelor’s Degrees for Professionals programs, you must have at least 24 credits already completed at a regionally accredited college or university. If you don’t meet this requirement, we encourage you to consider our other bachelor’s degree options.
That 24 credits is just a minimum, and many students transfer in more college credits. We’ll review your previous credits to see how they can apply towards your degree. Some may cover general education or elective requirements, while others may apply to your major.
It’s important to note that transfer credits do not work as a simple subtraction from the 124 credits required to graduate. For example, bringing in 100 credits does not automatically mean you only have 24 credits left. This is because each degree has specific coursework requirements, and not all transfer credits may apply. You must also complete at least 30 of your final 40 credits at Cal Lutheran.

Specific Transfer Situations
Correspondence and Extension Work
You can apply up to 20 credits from correspondence or extension courses toward your overall total. These credits can’t count toward major requirements, and the coursework must be applicable to a bachelor’s degree at the granting institution.
California State Transfers
If you’ve completed an approved state transfer — IGETC, CSU Breadth Certification or an Associate Degree for Transfer — or have at least 60 transfer credits excluding military credits, you’ve met Cal Lutheran’s general education requirements (IDEAS). You’ll still need to complete the content requirements within your major.
California Community Colleges Articulation Agreements
Cal Lutheran has articulation agreements with many nearby community colleges. Certain courses transfer for credit toward your general education requirements, and some may count toward your major.

Veterans
Veterans can transfer up to 40 military credits from a Joint Services Transcript. These count as elective credits toward the 124-credit total. You can find out more about credit for service on Cal Lutheran’s veterans benefits page.
Non-Qualifying Courses
Some course types generally don’t qualify, but please call us at 805-521-9856 if you have questions about your credits:
- Basic or manual skills (typing, stenography)
- Vocational or technical training
- Personal enrichment and continuing education courses
- Remedial courses or duplicates of previous coursework
