My name is Emily Werman and I graduated Cal Lutheran in spring of 2018. I have always had a strong passion for working with children with special needs. I myself went through my own person challenges and struggles and know what it feels like to be different and at time left behind.

As I got older and received help and an education at The Help Group in Sherman Oaks CA thanks to my supportive family who spent endless amounts of time making sure I have the best support system. I ended up graduated and attended Cal Lutheran as an undergraduate while pursuing my dream of becoming a special education teacher. Cal Lutheran was a miracle school and allowed me to flourish academically, emotionally and socially while also being a four year scholar athlete.

I knew when I graduated that I had a gift to offer to the world and to families that also were struggling and in doubt at times. I ended up getting a job working at The Help Group the same school I went to as a child starting in the summer of 2019 as a T.A. I currently still work and now in a teaching position under a STIP. Due to the world circumstances as teachers we are now moving to distance learning for the time being.

As a special needs teacher this has been a process in helping and supports all my families in aspects related to social, emotional and academic area with their children. I am giving 100% each and every day to meet the needs of all my kids I work with and their families to the best of my ability it is a constant process of phone calls, emails, zoom meetings and other forms of communication so I can work with my staff and team in providing the best opportunity for the kids to be successful. The kids I teach have a wide variety of needs and making sure they have the resources they need such as technology is so important.

One of the main components is educating the parents and teaching them the skills we do everyday to help their children be successful as well during this time especially since we can’t be there in person. It is so amazing to see all the work and effort the kids and parents are putting forth to help their children during this time as well. It is definitely a journey and a changing process but we are all making a difference each and every day even during this very difficult time.

I look forward to continuing to teach and educate the kids and their families during this period and being there throughout the day to help and support to the best of my ability.
