World AIDS Day (observed)

World AIDS Day (observed)

Part of Ventura County’s annual observance of World AIDS Day, this three-part program invites everyone to consider HIV/AIDS as not only a global health issue but also a social justice issue that impacts our local communities.

From 4:30 to 6 p.m., HIV/AIDS 101, a sexual health education session, provides new medical information as well as global, national and local updates. At 6, a speaker living with HIV/AIDS shares his personal health story and experiences as an advocate and activist. The event concludes with a nondenominational candlelight vigil beginning at approximately 7 p.m. The vigil is an act of commitment: to stand with others in loss, against injustice and connected in hope.

Admission is free. Sponsored by the Sarah W. Heath Center for Equality and Justice, Sociology Department, Religion Department, University Honors Program, Kwan Fong Gallery of Art and Culture, Campus Diversity Initiative, Quilt Project Gold Coast,HIV/AIDS Coalition of Ventura County, Ventura County Public Health, Diversity Collective Ventura County and Planned Parenthood California Central Coast.
