Howie Wennes served as Interim President of CLU during the search for the University's sixth president. The former Bishop of Grand Canyon Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), he served as interim pastor at Ascension Lutheran Church in Thousand Oaks and Spirit of Grace Lutheran Church in Surprise, Ariz., as well as a staff member of ELCA Hunger Appeal. He received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from CLU in 1987 and has served on the Board of Regents. His ministry career has taken him and his wife Mary to parishes throughout the Western United States.
