1990 Outstanding Alumni

Biography as it appeared in 1990.

Christina (Iverson ’68) Myren, this year’s recipient of the Outstanding Alumni Award, graduated cum laude from Cal Lutheran in 1968 with a bachelor’s in English.  Her devotion to early childhood education is evident throughout her life.  In 1990, she was an excellent full-time K-3 teacher in Conejo Valley Unified School District and found time to serve also as District Mentor teacher in mathematics.  In addition, she was a workshop instructor at the Center for Innovation in Education which offers nationwide programs in math instruction entitled “Mathematics Their Way.”

Christina has enriched her professional expertise by earning her master’s in education from California State University, Northridge and through her participation in various workshops, clinics and in-services.  Besides continuing her own studies, she has provided opportunities for others, not only in the elementary classroom and through the Center, but also as an instructor at CLU, CSUN and Ventura County Tri-Tec Center.

In September of 1990, Christian was awarded the prestigious Presidential Award for Excellence in teaching.  She is the first elementary school mathematics teacher from California to ever receive this award.  Christian was chosen from among more than 2,000 applicants statewide on the basis of her in-service and workshop presentations, participation in district planning and mentoring, and research publications.
