SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The first day of February also marked the start of the 2014 Cal Lutheran women’s track and field season as the Regals competed at Westmont this afternoon in a non-conference meet.

Senior thrower Briana Panapa wasted no time in the field during her final season, opening the year with a Hammer victory by producing a throw of 41.57m, on her first attempt of the meet, as the only CLU competitor in the event. She went on place second in the Shot Put (11.65m) and third in the Discus (30.87m) in her other two events. Sophomore Allie Hadley won the Javelin in the season opener, recording a personal best mark of 46.82m, which came on her third throw. The mark also betters her second place CLU mark.

Another first place finish today came from Ashley Frese who won the 3,000m race in 10:35.83, taking more than five seconds off her previous best. Kendahl Waalk took to the track for CLU for the first time, running an 11:00.76 in the same event.

Cal Lutheran took the top two spots in the Long Jump with Kendall Sauter edging teammate Lauren Rohach (5.26m) with a jump of 5.33m. Mary Case placed fourth with a mark of 5.03m. Amanda Hamilton was also victorious in the jumping pit, winning the Triple Jump with a mark of 11.42m.

Both Case and Emily Ginter cleared 3.01m in the Pole Vault today and High Jumping for the Regals for the first time, Julia Teitzel successfully jumped 1.50m.

Freshman Micayla Lowe ran the 100m dash in 13.61 to place second. In the 200m, Daniela Sullivan finished second in 27.97 and Amy Falahat followed in 28.06.

The CLU 4x200m relay team of Sauter, Rohach, Hamilton and Amy Galipeau went a 1:45.66 in a rare race at that distance.  Hamilton, Sullivan, Lowe and Rachael Maurer combined for a time of 4:19.76 in the 4x400m relay to close out the day.

On Feb. 16 a selected group of student-athletes will compete at the University of Washington Open in Seattle Wash. for the first of two indoor meets this spring. Competition at UW will get underway at 9:00 a.m.
